Full-on Festival Fun at The Merlin Theatre

Updated: Jul 13

FULL-ON FESTIVAL VIBE AND A WEALTH OF REASONS NEVER TO LEAVE TOWN!

As the town is in full swing for the Frome Festival, multi-arts venue, The Merlin Theatre, is no exception to the exciting vibe that's taken over the town. With a 240-seat indoor auditorium and a purpose-built 260-seat outdoor amphitheatre, this local favourite spot will be hosting an eclectic offering of events during the festival and throughout the summer.

Children have been well-catered for, with lessons in how to be a rockstar at the Rocktocademy show from local musical favourites, Rocktopus having kicked off on 5th July. Fun for youngsters continues on 13 July when Baron Munchausen brings his Time-Travelling Adventures in the shape of pirates, princesses, unicorns and space travellers. In a live version of Jackanory meets Whose Line Is It Anyway, the cast are challenged to tell increasingly extravagant tales. A multi-award winner as well as Edinburgh Fringe nominee, this is definitely one show not to miss.

As a venue dedicated to welcoming both amateur and professional groups, from near and far, the Merlin is delighted that Britain’s Got Talent star, Andrew Bourn, is set to dazzle the town with an exciting performance of Born To Swing outdoors on the ECOS amphitheatre.

Accompanied by his 5 piece band, this night of crooning, swing and jazz will cover some of the American Greats including Sinatra as well as modern crooners Michael Buble and Robbie Willams. Having sung for HM the King Charles himself, this event promises to be a night to remember. Bring picnics and rugs as Andrew’s smooth vocals and captivating stage presence mesmerise the audience to create an unforgettable experience with a magical atmosphere on 13th July.

Keeping it close to home, the Merlin is also proud to host one of the town’s most recently established theatre companies, Really Truly Theatre, with its brand new play, Mind Set. In a humorous, touching look at three close friends bonded by laughter, Stella, decides she knows an alternative truth and the others need waking up. Is being right worth testing the loyalties of her closest friends? Join us at 7.30pm on 10th July to find out!

Mind Set

Written by Frome resident, Polly Lamb, Mind Set is her third original play. Following on the sellout successes of Lockdown Blues (Frome Festival 2022) and Celebrate Me (2023), the stage will again be brought to life by an all-women cast of actors, all from Frome. The company’s Take Care Ticket initiative will ensure that up to 30 people who may not generally have easy access to theatre shows, get the chance to watch this comedy drama, thanks to local businesses Cooper and Tanner Estate Agents, Harris and Harris Solicitors and Forward Space who sponsored this offer.
